The Waterford Crystal Cuts

Olive Cut
- The cutter carves out an oval in the
crystal.
- Made in the glass using the
smooth side of a carved wheel.
- This cut can be clearly seen in Colleen.

Flat Cuts
- Most commonly found on the stems
of glasses and necks of decanters.
- Also known as the Rheintour cut.
- An example of this cut can be
seen on Grafton Street.

Wedge Cut
- This cut is applied using
diamond tipped wheels.
- Varying them in length and width
creates many patterns
- Lismore is the classic example
of wedge cutting.

Rosette
- This is a combination of three
or more cuts.
- The first cut is placed on the
crystal in a vertical or horizontal position.
- A number of cuts are then
added to form the fan.

Fine Diamonds
- A series of closely cut symmetrical
lines arranged to give a diamond-like
appearance.
- Example of this cut can be seen
on Alana

Blaze
- This cut is a contribution of leaf cuts
places around the piece that can be either
equal or unequal in length.
- Equal cuts can be seen on Maeve.
- Mourne has unequal blaze cuts.
